LEGAL SEPARATION AGREEMENTS AT FOR THE PEOPLE
Legal Separation Agreements are a popular option for separating couples in New York State who are amicable and agree to live separate and apart.
All of the same issues that would have to be resolved in a divorce must also be resolved in a Separation Agreement. Please see our divorce page for additional information on the issues you may need to address in your Separation Agreement.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
We charge $399 to prepare a Legal Separation Agreement. We will have you sign four original copies of the Agreement. That way, you will have an original for your records, your spouse will have one, we will keep one in our secure files and one will be placed on file in the County Clerk’s Office of your choosing. There is no additional fee to file a copy of your Separation Agreement in the County Clerk’s Office.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
It takes anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes to fill out our simple workbooks with all the information we need to prepare your Separation Agreement properly. Your agreement will be prepared within 7 to 10 business days, ready for you and your spouse to review and sign.
HOW DO I GET STARTED?
When you are ready to get started with your Legal Separation Agreement at For the People, you may make an appointment or come in as a walk-in to our office at 133 Wolf Road, Colonie NY. We will have you fill out a set of separation workbooks. The workbooks are the way we obtain the information we need about you. You may come in together with your spouse, or you may come in on your own to fill out the workbooks and begin the process. The choice is yours.
